Biography
Tadeusz Koper (1913–1995) was a Polish sculptor, born in Lviv, who worked in various European countries in the post-war period. From 1932, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, initially in the painting studios of Józef Mehoffer and Władysław Jarocki, and from 1936 under the sculptor Ksawery Dunikowski. He completed his studies in 1938 and subsequently remained at the Academy for a period. He is also believed to have studied at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris. During the Second World War, he resided in France and London, where he became part of the circle of Polish artists in exile. From 1949, he was a citizen of the United Kingdom, where he exhibited actively, notably at the Brook Street and Grabowski galleries. Koper’s preferred material was Carrara marble, which prompted his relocation to Italy in 1968. His works are represented in the Museum of Sculpture in Carrara, the National Museum in Kielce, and the University Museum in Toruń. In 1991, at the invitation of Warsaw’s Zachęta, Tadeusz Koper visited Poland for the last time.
