Portrait of a Young Man

In the eighteenth century, portrait painting became more multifaceted and extended to different segments of the population. The images in the paintings reflected the era and people with their habits, preferences, and characters. In the painting, there is a young man in a fashionable white wig and camisolе decorated with an openwork ornament embroidered with gold threads, and with the star of the White Eagle on his chest. The expressive silhouette of the man is painted on a neutral background. The man's face is depicted carefully and with small strokes. A slightly smiling face reflects the emotions of the person portrayed. Portraits executed in the European manner of painting have become a common phenomenon in Ukraine since the middle of the 18th century; they intertwined with the academic standards of local portrait painting.
