Object description
The painting belongs to the Austrian school of the first half of the 18th century. It depicts an unknown saint in a black monk's robe raising his head to heaven and folding his hands in prayer. The artwork was executed in a pasty and expressive manner, with sharp contrasts of light and shadow. The saint's identity remains unknown; however, it is assumed that the artist depicted Saint Philippe Neri due to the iconography and the spread of his cult in the 18th century.
