Object description
Stanislaw August Poniatowski (1732–1798) – the son of Stanislaw Poniatowski, castellan of Krakow and Konstancja Czartoryska, castellan of Wilno (Vilnius), the Grand Duke of Lithuania, statesman and military leader. He belonged to a noble family of the Poniatowski. In 1764 he was elected as a King of Poland and crowned in Warsaw. He was the last Polish king. The portrait shows August Poniatowski with a blue ribbon across his shoulder, the Polish Order of the White Eagle, and the Prussian Order of the Black Eagle around his neck. On the front of the painting, on the bottom left side, there is an inscription: "1875 r. / S. Gornicki / 1875 Pic. " The portrait is a copy of a work by the Italian artist M. Bacciarelli.
