Biography
Bartlomiej Malchewski, a miniaturist, was born around 1781. He was married to Julianna Fleming. In the birth certificate of his son, Adam Klemens, from 1814, there is a mention of the artist as a "drawing teacher at the national school in Lublin". He passed away in 1823 in Pulawy and was buried in the parish cemetery in Wlostowice. The only known work of Bartlomiej Malchewski is a miniature with a male portrait from the Borys Voznytskyi Lviv National Art Gallery collection.
Object description
On a dark grey oval background, a bust image of a young man is presented in a three-quarter profile facing to the right, with his gaze directed towards the viewer. He has dark, curly hair and a clean-shaven face. He is dressed in a dark blue tailcoat with golden buttons. From under the tailcoat, a white waistcoat with a standing collar, and a high, standing collar tied with a white necktie, are visible.
