Object description
Iconographically, Saint Barbara is depicted with one of her attributes – a tower where her father kept her to hide his daughter's beauty. In the sculptural composition, this tower is reproduced near the feet of the saint. The figure of Barbara is carved as a young maiden with an elegant hairstyle – her hair is gathered into a lush bun, with wavy locks cascading down her shoulders. A small diadem crowns her head. The main accent is a large cross on her chest – a symbol of devoted faith. The contrapposto figure with her right leg free, arms extended, and a slightly curved silhouette appears restrained. The Baroque stylistic influence is evident in the attire of the saint – Barbara is dressed in a long, low-cut gown with a corset. The subtle pattern of drapery on the garment, carved without excessive folds or intersections, contrasts with the dynamically arranged drapery enveloping the female figure.
