Object description
The Burning Bush is a bush that does not burn. The expression "burning bush" comes from the Old Testament, from the Pentateuch of Moses (the Book of Exodus). According to the biblical account, it was in the flames that God the Father appeared to Moses while he was tending sheep near Mount Sinai. From the Burning Bush, God called Moses to lead the Israelite people out of Egyptian slavery. The sculptural composition shows the bust of God the Father emerging from the Burning Bush. His head, tilted to his right shoulder, is surrounded by wavy grey hair that runs down both sides in soft strands. He has a high forehead, an ascetic face with protruding temples, a straight nose, a long wavy beard, and a pensive gaze. The sculptural pattern of the drapery of the garment is in vertical stripes, gently modelled without excessively sharp intersections and folds.
