Object description
The single-figure sculpture of Christ's Ascension was placed on the tetrapod in springtime, where it remained for forty days until Easter. This sculpture is a volumetric, full-length image of Jesus with his hand in a gesture of blessing. The saint's figure follows Western iconography, which became popular in the territory of Ukraine in the 16th century. The body of Jesus, meticulously anatomically crafted, attests to the artist's skill. Slightly inclined towards the right shoulder, the head is framed by long strands of carved wavy hair cascading onto the shoulders. The gentle expression of the benign face is full of humility. Christ is dressed in a long red robe fastened at the chest, loosely draping down, covering his right leg. The preserved polychrome enhances the plastic perception of the work and the expressiveness of Christ's image.
