Biography
Tadeusz Ajdukiewicz (1852–1916) was a Polish painter known for his portraits, genre scenes, and battle scenes. He was the cousin of the painter Zygmunt Ajdukiewicz. Tadeusz studied painting at the Krakow Academy of Fine Arts in the class of Wladyslaw Luszczkiewicz. He continued his artistic education at the Munich and Vienna Art Academies. While in Munich, his work was influenced by painters Juliusz Kossak and Jozef Brandt. He participated in World War I as part of the Austro-Hungarian army. He was killed in action near Krakow on January 9, 1916.
Object description
A group of grazing horses is depicted in the foreground against the backdrop of a vast rural landscape. To the right, three young shepherd boys sit near a campfire. In the background, a large estate can be seen in the distance. The clear and serene pre-dawn sky adds to the atmosphere of calm and tranquillity.
Inscriptions
At the bottom left, the author's signature and date: "T. Ajdukiewicz Monachium 1874".
