Object description
The crucifixion is executed in keeping with Western sacred iconography, where the Saviour is nailed to the cross with three nails. His head is tilted towards his right shoulder. The crouched body of Christ is carved with an emphasis on anatomical details, including clearly defined protruding ribs with a sunken chest and muscular legs. At the same time, there is a certain simplicity in the interpretation of the form, which may indicate the work of a master from a provincial school. A striking accent in the Crucifixion is the perizoma (loincloth), adorned with drapery, with smooth but dynamic folds that seem to flutter in the wind. The preserved fragments of gilding on the bandage emphasise the holiness and majesty of the image. Despite significant losses, the work retains its artistic value thanks to its clearly defined stylistic features.
