Object description
The cherub appears in the form of a small decorative sculptural head with wings, made in the traditions of sacred art of the Baroque era. The round face has childlike features: chubby cheeks, large eyes, small lips, and a clearly defined chin. The gentle expression gives the image a sense of heavenly purity and peace. The eyes are discreetly outlined, as if immersed in an inner contemplative state. Wings are carved from the bottom of the head, forming a compositional whole and emphasising the heavenly nature of the image. The gilding gives it a solemn appearance. Cherubs of this type had primarily decorative and symbolic significance – they were used to adorn altars, iconostases, or architectural elements of churches.
