Biography
Stanislaw Wyspianski was born in 1869 in Krakow. He studied at the Jagiellonian University and Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. He was a member of the Young Poland movement, and art editor of the weekly Życie (Life). Stanislaw Wyspianski is known as a playwright and poet, modernist painter, and designer. The artist died in November 1907. He was buried in Krakow.
Object description
This is a cityscape of Chartres town. On the right side of the work in the foreground, one can see one-storey trade (?) pavilions. In the background there is a vaguely depicted stone bridge with two arches against the backdrop of a cathedral with Gothic towers.
Inscriptions
In the upper part of the work there is a creation date 1890 written illegibly in Polish.
