Biography
Stanislaw Wyspianski was born in 1869 in Krakow. He studied at the Jagiellonian University and Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. He was a member of the Young Poland movement, and art editor of the weekly Życie (Life). Stanislaw Wyspianski is known as a playwright and poet, modernist painter, and designer. The artist died in November 1907. He was buried in Krakow.
Object description
This is a study of the girl’s head. Her shoulder-length hair is framed by a headband. The head is slightly tilted forward; the gaze is directed downwards. The artist skillfully depicted the facial features, namely a small nose and small stiff full lips. Her facial expression resembles indifference or detachment.
Inscriptions
On the right lower side of the work there is the author monogram. At the bottom left there is a date.
