Biography
Stanislaw Wyspianski was born in 1869 in Krakow. He studied at the Jagiellonian University and Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. He was a member of the Young Poland movement, and art editor of the weekly Życie (Life). Stanislaw Wyspianski is known as a playwright and poet, modernist painter, and designer. The artist died in November 1907. He was buried in Krakow.
Object description
a) This is a study of the woman's head; it is turned three quarters to the viewer’s left. Her long hair is gathered on the back of her head; on her forehead there is a curly strand; slightly squinted eyes are looking downwards. The defining facial features are full and smiling lips. b) This is a study of the young woman's head. The image is depicted in profile to the viewer; it is turned to the viewer’s left. The woman is depicted with long hair combed back and gathered on the back of her head. On the forehead and near the ear there are strands of curly hair. The gaze is directed straight ahead.
