Biography
Stanislaw Wyspianski was born in 1869 in Krakow. He studied at the Jagiellonian University and Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. He was a member of the Young Poland movement, and art editor of the weekly Życie (Life). Stanislaw Wyspianski is known as a playwright and poet, modernist painter, and designer. The artist died in November 1907. He was buried in Krakow.
Object description
a) This is a sketch of three human figures depicted without any facial features. The figure at the bottom, which is to the viewer’s left, is shown in a hussar uniform and in a high headdress. On his left shoulder there is an epaulette. The left hand is leaning on the sabre (?). Next to him there is a silhouette depicted in a high headdress and with a long mustache. The sketch of the clothes resembles a noble costume of the 17th century. b) This is a sketch of a human figure depicted without any facial features with a royal crown on his head and a sabre on the left side.
