Object description
Kaetan Sadowski of Lubicz coat of arms was a colonel of the Lithuanian troops. He was a son of Ignatius Leonard Sadowski, the elder of Slonim, and Princess Teresa Czetwertynska. The half-length image of a man is painted in accordance with the canons of the ceremonial portraiture. Kaetan Sadowski is represented in a solemnly static pose. He is dressed in formal clothes with a blue ribbon and an order. The image is characterized by bright colors, excessive detailing of the image and accessories, planar manner of execution, and solemnity, which were typical for primitive art paintings. The artist carefully reproduced the portrait features of the person portrayed, in particular bulbous almond-shaped eyes, a straight nose with swollen nostrils, a massive chin, and a small curled mustache. To emphasize the social status of the man, there is the family coat of arms and the inscription at the bottom of the painting: "Kaietan Sadowski syn Ignacego starosty Slonimskiego i Maryanny xiezniczki Czetwertynskiey kawaler orderu bawarskiego".
