Information about author
The image might represent one of the streets of Paris during the artist's first visit there between 1908 and 1909. A similar monumental Parisian building is depicted in the watercolor work “Winter Avenue” dated 1909. The composition is performed in contrasting colors although the black color of Indian ink prevails. The houses, figures of people, and shadows of the rainy evening city are depicted in black. In the foreground on the left stand out billboards in bright colors, namely in red, yellow, and light green ones. On the right, the composition is balanced with the help of the street lamp’s structure.
In the lower right part of the work there is the author’s signature “Odo Dobrowolski” written in italics.
