Object description
The stooped figure of Christ is presented in an expressive pose: Jesus stands on a cloud with his arms spread. The Saviour's naked athletic body is covered by a drapery thrown over his left arm. His high forehead is framed by waves of dark hair falling to his shoulders. The detailed carving of the face is the work of an experienced craftsman guided by professional sculpture. Christ's gaze is upward and full of drama. The Saviour's pose, the dynamic folds of the drapery falling from his shoulders, the expressive clouds – everything is imbued with movement. In the sculpture, the folk master demonstrated his skilful use of a carving tool and skilfully conveyed the anatomy of the human body.
