Biography
Petro Omelchenko (September 22, 1894, Khorol town, Poltava region – February 21, 1952, Genevière-sur-Marne, France) was a Ukrainian graphic artist and painter. In 1914, he graduated from the Khorol Realschule and later continued his studies in Kyiv and Saint Petersburg. In 1920, he emigrated to Poland and later to the Czech Republic. He attended the Warsaw and Prague Academies of Arts. From 1928, he lived and worked in Paris. The main direction of Petro Omelchenko's creative work was applied and book graphics (woodcuts, linocuts, engravings on glass) and compositions on the theme of the life of workers and the homeless. The artist participated in exhibitions of Ukrainian artists in Paris, Prague, Lviv, and Berlin. A significant part of Omelchenko's artistic heritage was lost due to a fire in the artist's house in 1972.
