Object description
Waclaw Rzewuski (1706–1779) – polish crown scribe, voivode of Podilsk, polish crown hetman, Voivode of Krakow, the great hetman of the Crown, castellan of Krakow, and since 1735 - Knight of the Order of the White Eagle. A political figure, dramatist, poet and translator. Son of Stanislaw Mateusz, the governor of Bielsko, Field Herman of the Crown and Ludwika Kunicka. Brother of Seweryn Yuzef, voivode of Volhynia. The half-length portrait of Waclaw Rzewuski, the wealthy owner of Pidhirtsi Castle, follows the tradition of representational painting. The figure, although depicted in a proud pose with a mace in his hand, lacks statism. The cape out of leopard' skin covering his knight's armour and the blue ribbon of the Order of the White Eagle add lively and colourful accents to the portrait.
