Object description
The tsuba is round in shape (maru gata) with a wedge-shaped hole (nakago-ana) in the centre; in the upper part of the hole, there are notches, and in the lower part – a riveted piece of copper, two hieroglyphic inscriptions are engraved around nakago-ana. Oval holes (hitsu-ana) are soldered. A lion and sea force are depicted on the front side. The lion is shown jumping to the right; the head is turned back, and half of the tsuba’s surface is taken up. On the reverse side in the upper part of the tsuba is a relief and engraved image of clouds; in the lower part, there are sea waves. The surface in the middle of the tsuba is smooth and without decoration.
