Object description
The seven-pointed cross with an elongated central crossbeam is made using profiling and flat carving techniques. The crucifixion is depicted from the front, occupying the central cross and part of the central beam in the manner typical of primitive folk art. The traditional compositional solution with a full-length figure of Jesus on a four-pointed cross. At the ends of the central frame are graphic, waist-length figures with outlined facial and clothing details. The figure of Christ is crouched, with a disproportionately large head, and the design of his body shows a schematic form with sketched outlines and minor details. The plane of the back of the hand cross, the central part of the stem and the central crosspiece are filled with carved images of a full-figured figure of the Virgin Mary with a crown on her head, with graphically elaborated waist-length figures on either side. The frames of the upper and lower crosses are separated from the central composition at the front and back. A stripe and stylised ornaments frame their surfaces along the outline, and the centre is filled with letters.
