Object description
The seven-pointed cross with an elongated middle crosspiece is made using profiling and flat carving techniques. The work's interpretation of iconographic images shows signs of folk primitivism. The Crucifixion is depicted on the front side of the middle cross. The figure of Christ is squat, with a disproportionately large head, and the representation of the body is marked by schematisation and geometric shapes. At the ends of the central frame are two figures with marked outlines and slightly elaborated details. On the reverse side, following Western iconography, there is a full-length figure of the Virgin Mary in a crown with the Child Christ in her arms. The horizontal frames of the upper and lower crosses are separated from the central composition. Their planes are framed along the contour by a smooth, narrow stripe encircled by short, parallel, oblique lines on the inside.
