Object description
Jakub Stefan Augustynowicz (1701–1783) was an Armenian religious figure, a Catholic priest, and the Lviv Armenian Catholic Church leader. He got a Doctor of Philosophy degree. Jakub Augustynowicz was born in Lviv, where he later died. He was buried in the crypt of the Armenian Cathedral. In the late 1790s and early 1800s, Ostap Biliavskyi created a gallery of portraits of Armenian Latin bishops, including the portrait of Jakub Stefan Augustynowicz, a brother and predecessor of Jan Tobiasz Augustynowicz. A clear waist-length image of the bishop is depicted against the dark background. The artist managed to express the character of the person portrayed. A masterful depiction of the individual features of the portrayed people characterises the works by Ostap Biliavskyi.
