Object description
Petronela Rzewuska was a wife of Adam Rzewuski, a castellan of Podlasie. As Petronela's iconography is unknown, the attribution is based on Adam Rzewuski's biographical data. It is established that Adam (?–1717, Krzywda coat of arms), the son of Michal Florian Rzewuski, was Cavalry Master of the Crown and a castellan. His wife was Petronela Zbroszkowna. (T. Sabodash made assumptions about the person portrayed). The half-length portrait in a delineated oval depicts a figure of a woman in a fashionable low-necked dress and a dark blue cape, with her hair gathered up, forming a neat braid. The painter carefully painted the features of the woman, in particular, dark black eyebrows and almond-shaped eyes with a piercing gaze. Bright colours, excessive detailing of the image and accessories, a planar manner of execution, and solemnity characterise the painting by a naive artist.
