Object description
The design of the hand cross is a seven-pointed cross (no central crosspiece) with a long handle. Its compositional solution is simple and laconic. Iconographic scenes occupy almost the entire surface of one side of the cross. On the front, the relief of the Crucifixion on a smooth background takes centre stage. Christ is carved using the technique of flat relief, in which the carved elements rise above the background, creating the effect of volume and relief. The Saviour's body and the cherubs at the ends of the lower crossbar are schematic, with little elaboration of detail. The plane of the upper frame is filled with the inscription "INRI", in the centre of which is a flat relief of a dove symbolising the Holy Spirit. The perimeter of the cross profiling has a narrow "ark" stripe, which makes the background recessed. The contour of the cross is decorated with a geometric "kryvulka" (curved) ornament. The back is smooth.
