Object description
A sculptural work from the Renaissance period, which allegedly imitated an ancient statue. Various versions of this work were popular for several centuries. A similar sculpture with minor changes in the casting was exhibited at the VIOLITY auction, where it was dated to the 18th century. The work from the Lviv collection is traditionally dated to the 16th century. The figure of a naked man with an athletic build is presented in contrapposto, leaning on his right leg with his left leg forward. The right hand, with the fist clenched, is bent at the elbow and lowered, while the left hand is raised, bent and placed on the head, which is turned in profile to the right. The athlete's muscles are tense: he is preparing for a fight. The figure stands on a rectangular wooden pedestal surrounded by a border at the bottom.
Inscriptions
On the side of the base is an inscription in white: "№ С-І-544/ Л.ОКГ". On the bottom of the base is an inscription in black: "24./ GNML". In the centre is a sticker with the number "115".
