Biography: Oksana Zynaida Mykhailivna Liaturynska (1 February 1902, Leski Khutor, Volyn – 13 June 1970, Minneapolis, Minnesota) was a Ukrainian artist, sculptor, writer, poetess and public figure. From the early 1920s, she studied at the Ivan Steshenko Kremenets Private Ukrainian Grammar School. In 1922 she ran away from home to Germany. Not having a residence permit in 1924 Oksana Liaturynska ends up in Prague in Czechoslovakia. She was actively involved in the social and cultural life of Ukrainian emigration. She studies at the Faculty of Philosophy of Charles University, at the Ukrainian Studio of Plastic Art, at the Czech High School of Art and Industry. Works a lot, in particular in sculpture. She took part in a number of exhibitions in London, Paris, Berlin and gained recognition as a master of sculptural portraits. She created monuments of fallen UHA soldiers in Pardubice (1932), and busts of Taras Shevchenko, Tomasz Masaryk, Symon Petliura Petliura and Yevhen Konovalets. Several tombstones made by Oksana can be seen in Prague cemeteries.
