Magdalene or Mary Magdalene was a faithful follower of Christ. Mary Magdalene's name identifies her as the "Mary of Magdala", after the town she came from, on the western shore of the Sea of Galilee. In those days, only influential and important people were named after their hometown. In the Gospel there is no mention about her youth. After Jesus cast seven demons out of Mary Magdalene, she became his faithful follower. The graceful figure of the saint woman is reproduced in the type of the S-shaped silhouette (figura serpentinata), which dominated in Baroque sculpture. Magdalene is depicted in a dynamic pose with theatrically outstretched arms. Mary's clothing is given a shape of dynamic folds formed by geometric planes. The sculptor carved the features of the woman's face in a peculiar manner. These are visible cheekbones, a straight nose, a high forehead, and the eyebrows met in the middle. The image of Mary Magdalene is full of humility and obedience.
