Object description
Janusz Aleksander Sanguszko (1717–1775), of the "Pogon" coat of arms, a descendant of the Volhynia noble family, son of Pawel Karol, leader of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and Marianna Lubomirska, Swordbearer of Lithuania (from 1735), Knight of the Order of the White Eagle (from 1736), Court Marshal of Lithuania in 1750-1760. On the ceremonial portrait, a half-length image of Sanguszko emerges from a dark background. The man is depicted in a traditional pose, turned left, wearing a red cloak lined with fur, on top of the knight's armour. The artist paid much attention to conveying the individuality of Aleksander Sanguszko. The face of a young man reflects his emotions and conveys his inner state.
