Object description
Isidore (? –1463) – metropolitan of Kyiv, cardinal. He was Greek by birth, born in Thessaloniki. He was the last metropolitan elected and put responsible for all of Rus in Constantinople. Against a neutral background stands the figure of the clergyman. A man with a long dark beard is represented in a red cardinal's robe. This portrait is a copy of an earlier image. On the back there is an inscription: «Isidorus Metropolitanus Russia et Cardinali / Sancta Romana Ecelesia Ordinis Sancti / Basilij Magni Creolus ab Eugenio guarto / Pontifice in Consilio Florenctano. / Anno 1459».
