Object description
Wojciech Orzechowicz was a councillor of Lviv. The knee-long portrayal reflects the man in a representative pose, three-quarters reversed to the left. The portrait follows the noblemen's "contrafaceres", which were liked by the bourgeoisie. The work is characterised by the ceremonious posture of the figure, the demonstrative arrangement of hands, and the crucifix on the table. The frozen expression, the solemnity of the pose and the flat interpretation of the image are imprinted in the portrait of the Lviv councillor. The red caftan is a striking accent in the image. In the dark background on the left side of the portrait, we can see the coat of arms with the inscription: "Natus die 3 Apriris AD …/ et mortus est AD. 169…/ die 27 Aprilis".
