Object description
The image of an angel in the hypostasis of a small naked or half-naked child – putto – can be traced back to Renaissance, Baroque, and Rococo art. The angel is depicted in a flying pose, his arms outstretched diagonally, his legs, half bent at the knees, turned to the left – the unnatural proportions of the figure create the illusion of flight. The sculptor's chisel has skilfully worked out the tiny body with its softly rounded and arched forms. The round, full-cheeked face, with a small snub nose, has a childlike, naive expression. The expressive folds of the drapery, which encircle the hips and seem to flutter in the breeze, add to the dynamism of the image.
