Object description
The sculpture of the saint is reproduced in a dynamic posture, with somewhat slow movements. A clear outline distinguishes his full-length contrapposto figure; his right foot is put forward. The man's right hand lies on his chest; he holds a large book in his left hand. The saint is dressed in a long soutane with wide sleeves. The straight lines of the garment's draperies are formed with the help of massive folds that wrap the figure, falling in vertical strands with precise edges. The saint's face is conveyed with an expression of frozen detachment and peace; his gaze is directed downwards. The man's hair and beard are made with the shallow deepening of smooth wavy lines. The sculpture is modelled with verticalism, slow movement, and smooth texture. The baroque movement loses expression in religious images of the Lviv sculptural school of the second half of the 18th century; gentleness appears on the faces of the characters. Despite the image's modesty, the emotional Baroque notes are still felt in the sculptural composition.
