Object description
The allegorical figure of a woman is reproduced in an S-shaped silhouette and a graceful theatrical pose; a child with raised hands is leaning against her left leg. Certain humility of posture, facial expressions and gestures can be seen in the monumental and integral image of the sculptural composition. On the woman's head is a small exquisite diadem from under which wavy strands of hair, carved with shallow incised lines, fall on her shoulders. The sculptor focused on the reproduction of the woman's face and characterised it with somewhat idealised features without specifics. An elongated oval face with plump cheeks, a slightly pointed chin, bulging eyes covered with massive arches of the eyelids, a straight nose, and outlined lips convey the image of a detached and thoughtful person. The master modelled the face, trying to reproduce a person's facial expression detached from the real world. The contrapposto figure is depicted in a long dress with a thick corset that demonstrates the curves of the female body. The bottom of the dress is carved with deep vertical lines of folds, which enhance the chiaroscuro gradation. A dynamic drapery adds expression to the image; it falls from the back of the head and wraps the female figure in the lower part. Ribbed lines model its surface. Intersecting, they form a modest pattern that includes abstract planes curved at different angles, which are not always bound to the figure and its movements.
