The work reflects the end of Jesus' earthly ministry. According to the Gospel of Saint Peter, the Saviour spent forty days on earth among his disciples and followers after his resurrection, and then ascended to heaven. The sculptural composition "Ascension of Christ", following the Western tradition, shows the Saint with his right foot on the skull of Adam, symbolising the victory of life over death. The work is based on professional models. The full-figured, athletic figure of Christ is represented in a dynamic pose with his arms outstretched. His head is turned to the left. His face, surrounded by wavy strands of dark hair, shows an expression of humility and resignation. The gaze is directed upwards from under the closed eyelids. Christ's naked body is covered on the thighs by a small loincloth decorated with dynamic lines of folds. Behind the Saint's shoulders, a red mantle fastened at the neck flutters expressively, formed by deeply concave planes of intersecting diagonal lines. The master has demonstrated his ability to render the anatomy of the human body, reproducing every tensed muscle and thus enhancing the emotional intensity of the image.
