The iconography of Christ was immensely popular: he was depicted in various forms, including the crucifixion. The altar sculpture shows the Saviour nailed to the cross with three nails, following the Western tradition. With the skilful movements of the carver, the author reproduced the exhausted body of Jesus with abundant drops of blood running down it. The mark of Longinus' spear on the right side under the rib is clearly visible. Interesting is the interpretation of the crown of thorns, which resembles two branches rhythmically intertwined and wrapped around the head, which is bent towards the chest. The wavy locks of Christ's hair fall softly on his shoulders. The saint's face, somewhat disproportionate, is full of serenity and submission. The sculpture is characterised by its expressive plasticity, the skilful reproduction of the body's anatomy and the image's detail.
