Object description
The composition of the angel belongs to a specific type of sculpture, the putto, the image of a small child with wings, symbolising a harbinger of the earthly or angelic spirit. The work depicts an angel in a graceful pose with his head thrown back, surrounded by massive curls of unruly hair, typical of the Baroque style. The rounded forms of the small body, skilfully reproduced anatomically by the artist, are characterised by a smooth, soft outline. The round face, with its double chin, full cheeks, snub nose and wide-open eyes, has a dreamy look. The author skilfully uses plastic to convey the emotionally uplifting image of an angel.
