Object description
The depiction of cherubim is among the oldest, first used to decorate the lid of the Ark of the Covenant. This image has been repeatedly used by both professional and folk artists, creating a large variety of images with individual features. The sculptor created the cherub with an elongated face, the contour of which is enveloped by a soft line, giving the image a stern appearance. A high forehead, clearly defined brow arches, large almond-shaped eyes, plump lips, and somewhat asymmetrical features characterise the angel. His smooth hair, pressed to his head, is worked with shallow carved lines. The master paid particular attention to the alienated expression of the face with a distant gaze. In terms of execution, the work is similar to the head of an angel with the inventory number С-І-2185.
