Object description
The angel figure on the console is depicted in an expressive pose. Compositionally, the work belongs to a specific type of sculpture known as putto, representing a child with wings, symbolising a precursor of the earthly or angelic spirit. The angel's body is curved in an arch, with the head and legs directed to the left and the arms to the opposite side. The sculptor endowed the angel with soft forms, and its round face with plump cheeks, snub nose, and slightly open mouth exudes emotional excitement. The head is framed by voluminous strands of wavy hair characteristic of Baroque sculpture, complementing the work effectively. A soft, smooth line contours the plastic forms of the angel. The idealised image of the angel is imbued with Baroque dynamic plasticity.
