Object description
The full-length figure represents a saint in a restrained Baroque pose on a low figure stand. The man's head, crowned with a tiara, is turned and inclined towards the right shoulder while his beard gently waves down to his chest. The volumetric plasticity of the ascetic, slender face is expressively worked out. The image of a balanced person, immersed in emotions, is conveyed by a high forehead, crossed by barely noticeable lines of horizontal wrinkles, protruding cheekbones, a straight long nose and small eyes, slightly closed, with a downward gaze. The garment covers the saint's body, leaving only his feet exposed. The draperies of the clothes are restrained, dominated by straight, long folds, and worked with parallel vertical recesses. The sculpture transmits emotion without exaggerated gestures and tension. In the composition, employing classical contrapposto, there is a frozen yet hieratic posture and somewhat restrained movement.
