Object description
The long-handled cross is a seven-point cross with an elongated central crosspiece, made with a carving tool using contour, notched and flat relief carving techniques. The work is characterised by a simple and laconic, plastic and compositional interpretation of the decorative design, which occupies the central frame and the main surface of the stem on both sides. On the front, in the centre, is a flat carved image of a cross. On either side, parallel to the central bar, there is a Longinus lance and a cross on a long bar. The upper frame, separated from the central composition, bears the inscription "INRI" outlined in a zigzag pattern. In the lower frame, in the centre, Adam's skull is outlined with incised lines. The images on the reverse side are identical, except that the cross is carved on the central bar below the central crossbar, which is decorated with a band of geometric ornaments alternating with letters. The outline of the cross, which is profiled on both sides, is decorated with a band with a geometric "curved" motif.
