Biography
Aleksander Kotsis (1836, Krakow – 1877, ibid.) was a Polish realist painter. He studied at the art academies of Krakow and Vienna. He painted landscapes, interiors, portraits, and genre scenes from rural life in Krakow and Pidhallia. His works are preserved in the collections of the National Museums of Poland and Ukraine.
Object description
The work depicts a scene from rural life. Three children – two older girls and a little boy – are among the green trees by a small stream. The girls are letting ducklings, which they take out of a basket, down to the water. The boy in a white shirt watches them. In the background, white cottages can be seen among the trees.
Inscriptions
In the lower left, the artist's signature: "А. К.".
