Biography
Maurycy Gottlieb (1856, Drohobych – 1879, Krakow) was a Polish painter of Jewish origin. He studied at the art academies of Vienna and Krakow and was a pupil of Jan Matejko. He painted historical and religious compositions based on the Talmud and the Bible and was known as a portraitist.
Object description
A sketch of a young man stepping through a window with his left leg while holding onto the frame with his right hand. To the right is the silhouette of a woman's head. On the reverse side is a sketch of a house.
Inscriptions
At the bottom centre, there is the artist's signature: "M. G.".
