Object description

Marcin Krasicki (1574–1631/1633) was a Polish nobleman, Lviv castellan, and voivode of Podolia (1629–1631). He was a son of Stanislaw Krasicki (c. 1540–1602) and Anna Zurawinska. Marcin studied in Rome and served in the imperial army. In 1617, he took part in the campaign against the Tatars under the command of Stanislaw Zolkiewski. He was one of the greatest patrons of the time. Marcin Krasicki created a "Relief Fund" for people experiencing poverty. In the portrait, the figure of Marcin Krasicki is presented in a planar way. An oval face, sloped shoulders, and soft body contours create a decorative integrity. A fixed composition and pomposity characterise the image. The red colour of the man's clothes plays a unique role in the painting and gives life to the work. In the corner of the painting is an inscription: "Marcin Hrabia Krasicki /… da Podolski / 1627".
