Object description
An appeal to ancient values and meanings, aesthetic ideals and forms, is a feature of the Renaissance, Classicism, Baroque, and the 18th and early 19th centuries culture. In the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, the figures of "gallant mythology", especially Venus, the goddess of beauty and love, became particularly popular in interior decoration. An example of this is a bronze sculpture from the collection of Borys Voznytskyi Lviv National Art Gallery by an unknown artist, characterised by decorativeness, idealisation, laconicism, refinement of the silhouette and skilful modelling of forms.
