Object description
The sculpture depicts Christ wearing a crown of thorns. The work has suffered significant damage – the arms and lower legs are missing – but this does not prevent us from recognising the image of Christ crucified. His head is tilted to his right shoulder. His face is framed by the rigorous lines of dark hair and a short, wedge-shaped beard. His eyes are closed, his face expressing calm and sorrow. The naked body is covered with a drapery on the hips, tied with a knot. The carving resembles a thin fabric falling in soft, natural folds. The Crucifixion is made more dramatic by the traces of blood that cover the forehead and part of the torso in abundant drops.
