Object description
In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, bourgeois portraiture was widespread in Western Ukraine. Gradually, it loses a number of attributes that were common for portraits of noblemen. It becomes less important for customers to show their social status than to immortalize the image of a respected person for relatives or the community. The portrait shows a bust-length image of an unknown man in a proud pose. The profile figure of a man with a blue ribbon and the Order of the White Eagle stands out from the dark background. The artist focused on portrait features of the elderly nobleman.
