Object description
The Flagellation of Christ, also known as Christ at the Column, is a scene from the Passion often depicted in art. The saint's figure is portrayed in full length, wearing a loincloth tied in a knot in front. His hands are bound behind his back, and his head is tilted to the right. The master emphasises Christ's athletic physique: the curve of his head, the meticulously crafted joints of his arms, and the tense muscles of his legs bent at the knees. The bowed head, lowered eyelids, and slightly open mouth convey the suffering of Jesus.
