Biography
Stanislaw Wyspianski was born in 1869 in Krakow. He studied at the Jagiellonian University and Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. He was a member of the Young Poland movement, and art editor of the weekly Życie (Life). Stanislaw Wyspianski is known as a playwright and poet, modernist painter, and designer. The artist died in November 1907. He was buried in Krakow.
Object description
The portrait represents a bust-length image of a teenage boy with blond hair and brown eyes. The portrayed boy is turned three quarters to the viewer’s left. He is looking down. The lips are stiff. The facial expression resembles thoughtfulness and sadness.
Inscriptions
On the right side of the work there is the author monogram.
